A text arrives: “Hi Mum, I’ve lost my phone. Can you send money?” Your heart races. But pause. It might not be your child.
The Drama:
Impersonation. They pretend to be your child.
Urgency. “I need help now!”
Payment request. Usually to a third party.
Security Advice:
- Call your child. On their real number.
- Confirm everything. Accept nothing at face value.
- Stay calm. Scammers thrive on panic.
