The Role
We are looking for a proactive, commercially minded Financial Controller to play a central role in shaping the financial performance and discipline of Alpha Bank London. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role offers significant exposure across the Bank, genuine partnership with senior leaders, and the opportunity to lead and develop a high performing finance team.
This is a pivotal position at the heart of the Bank’s finance function—balancing technical excellence with strong business partnership. You will support the CFO in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting and insight, driving rigorous control, and enabling sound decision making across the organisation.
What You’ll Do
Financial Management & Reporting
Lead the month end close process and deliver high quality management accounts, committee reporting (including ALCO), Group reporting, and regulatory submissions (FINREP, PRA returns).
Provide oversight of the Chart of Accounts and General Ledger—ensuring structure, accuracy, data integrity, and governance.
Review VAT and corporation tax returns and monitor payments to/from HMRC.
Business Partnership
Work closely with the CFO and senior leaders to develop budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans, providing insightful analysis and challenge.
Support preparation of Board papers and attend key committees, occasionally deputising for the CFO.
Provide clear, value adding financial insights and analysis to stakeholders across the Bank.
Control & Governance
Review and authorise cost control submissions, POs, invoices, supplier payments, and manual journals within delegated authority.
Oversee daily internal control and regulatory reports, ensuring timely escalation of issues.
Coordinate external audit and tax engagements.
Monitor and support implementation of new accounting standards (IFRS) and financial policies.
Risk & Operational Excellence
Act as the Finance Operational Risk Coordinator, overseeing ORE reporting, RCSA processes, and risk assessments (e.g., outsourcing, models).
Maintain accurate finance procedures and drive continuous improvement in processes, controls, and systems.
Ensure compliance with PRA/FCA Conduct Rules, data protection requirements, and internal policies.
Leadership
Manage and develop the Finance reporting Team, fostering a collaborative, high performance culture.
Provide coaching, regular feedback, and support career development.
What we’re looking for
Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
Strong technical accounting and reporting experience, ideally within banking.
Confident communicator with the ability to build trusted relationships and challenge constructively.
A hands on problem solver with strong attention to detail and appetite for continuous improvement.
Experience leading or supervising team members.
